- Do I need to make the oracle 10g RAC to Oracle 10g Single Instance Database ? ( If possible can u please provide the steps to do so )
If there is any other alternative please let me know
2) During Target System Installation before importing data, we need to install oracle software
- Do I need to install Oracle Cluster Software before installing Oracle Software ?
- Do I need to install Oracle Software as Single Instance or Oracle RAC software need to be installed
3) As Oracle Cluster Software is already installed, its regarding PowerHA Clustering
- Do I need to take care of even database in PowerHA configuration ?
Please note, before posting this discussion I have already referred White Papers related to Oracle 10g/11g RAC configuration for SAP and also referred the relevant OSS notes

Hi All,
I would like to ask you about one thing, I try to prepare SAP Homogenous system copy with new SID based on Linux SUSE/Oracle 11 and I have a one question. I do it by SAP software Provisioning Manager, system copy etc.
During the installation one of steps is – stop installation by SAP Provisioning Manager and Oracle database installation by script. /RUNINSTALLER.
When I do this one of the elements is type of Oracle installation:
I chose “Install database Software only” because I would like to restore database from my backup files, but if I will chose this, after Oracle installation I cannot connect to the Oracle via SQLPlus – this tool not working. Where is the problem, perhaps shall I chose “Create and Configure database” ? Or something should be done after “Install database software only”.
Thanks for your help.

Tomasz

The Critical Patch Update for April 2015 was released on April 14th, 2015.
Oracle strongly recommends applying the patches as soon as possible.

What is the reaction of SAP concerning this security issue ?
Dear Experts,
I am performing the first upgrade to oracle 12c in our environment. Currently, I finished the procedure
for switching the Oracle Software owner user from oraSID to oracle, which is described in SAP note
1915317 - Migrating Software Owner to 'oracle'
There, at point 13 Configure SAP BR*Tools for user 'oracle', I wanted to check the result by launching:
OS> brconnect -u / -f check
OS> brbackup -u / -q
Unfortunately, these commands are failing:
<SID>adm 1% brbackup -u / -q
BR0051I BRBACKUP 7.40 (15)
BR0055I Start of database backup: beqgenmx.qub 2015-04-09 15:33:23
BR0484I BRBACKUP log file: /oracle/<SID>/sapbackup/beqgenmx.qub
BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2015-04-09 15:33:23
BR0301E SQL error -1031 at location BrInitOraCreate-2, SQL statement:
'CONNECT / AT PROF_CONN IN SYSOPER MODE'
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
BR0303E Determination of Oracle version failed
BR0056I End of database backup: beqgenmx.qub 2015-04-09 15:33:23
BR0280I BRBACKUP time stamp: 2015-04-09 15:33:23
BR0054I BRBACKUP terminated with errors
This can easily be fixed by launching the sapdba_role.sql and sapconnect_role.sql scripts, which are
contained in the BRTools 7.40.SAR file. But soon after, I found out, that things are good just in the
current session. Once I log out from the user and then switch back to it, the above error comes back
again. I have compared the environment when it works and when it doesn't, and there is no difference,
so here I am out of ideas... Please kindly help me to solve this, THANKS!

Hi ,
Due to some mistake, We got spfile deleted in our Oracle 11g and ECC6.07 system.
After spfile deletion also our system is running fine so got below question on my mind of Oracle Task execution -
1) After spfile deletion which was used during oracle startup how oracle is determining parameter values, Is it during startup oracle loads all parameters from spfile to memory and using memory contents to find value of parameter values or it is fetching parameter values from pfile.
2) I read oracle reads spfile<sid>.ora -> spfile.ora --> pfille for reading sequence, Does it means for all activities including startup, parameters maintain and fetch oracle uses this sequence.
3) what if we delete pfile also, Will oracle be up and running and will create issue only during next startup.
Regards,
Shivam
Hi all,
I want to delete the parameter optimizer_index_cost_adj in Oracle 10.2 as per SAP recommendations, I did the following to remove it from the spfile:
SQL> alter system reset optimizer_index_cost_adj scope=spfile sid='*';
System altered.
but when I restarted Oracle, the parameter was once again set to 10 ! If I try and reset it in memory I get this error:
SQL> alter system reset optimizer_index_cost_adj scope=memory sid='*';
alter system reset optimizer_index_cost_adj scope=memory sid='*'
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-32009: cannot reset the memory value for instance * from instance BPA
any help much appreciated !

Hello All,
I would like to know the recommendations and any suggestions for enabling Tablespace compression during the installation of SAP using SWPM.
Details
Install ERP 6.0 SR3 with Kernel 7.21 on Linux x86_64 OS with Oracle 11.2.0.4
Compression can be enabled by selecting Advanced DB configuration during SAP installation.
I found the procedure of implementing compression after system build is quite tedious, so utilizing this option .
Compression can be enabled only for SAP Appln tablespaces like PSAPSR3/PSAPSR3700/PSAPSR3USR right?
I have already glanced thru the OSS notes for ACO/Compression for SAP Systems/FAQ on Compression, pre-requisites are met I believe:
Oracle 11.2.0.4 /SAP Kernel release 721 meet the pre-requisites.
Cannot be enabled for Oracle SYSTEM/SYSAUX tablespaces.
This procedure would implement index and oltp table compression by default right?
Anda are there any manual parameters need to be amended right after the installation?
Sanity checks/monitoring need to be performed after installation?
Are there any disadvantages by enabling compression during the installation.?
Please share your real time experiences and thoughts..
Thanks in advance.
